Habit Logs and Streaks
Habit logs are how you record what happened for each habit each day. They determine whether a habit is completed, skipped, marked as vacation, failed, or left unlogged.
Streaks use those daily logs to show how consistently you have kept a habit active. This guide explains what each log status means, how streaks are counted, and what to do when you miss a day.
What each log status does
| Status | What happens to your streak |
|---|---|
| ✓ Completed | Adds 1 day to the streak and keeps your progress moving. |
| − Skipped | Keeps the streak safe, but does not add a day. |
| 🌴 Vacation | Keeps the streak safe, but does not add a day. |
| ✕ Failed | Ends the current streak. |
| 🗑 Cleared or no log | Creates a missing day. If you continue later without filling the missing day, the streak can reset. |
Monitoring progress through streaks
Use streaks to monitor how many days in a row you have kept a habit active.
Completing a habit adds 1 day to the streak. Skipping a habit or taking a vacation day protects the streak, but does not increase it. Failing a habit ends the current streak and gives you a fresh start.
Important: A streak needs a log for each day. If a habit is left unlogged, it counts as a missed day and can end the streak, so make sure recent logs are up to date.
How streaks work
Your streak starts with your first completed day.
- Day 1: You complete the habit once.
- Day 2: You complete it again on the next day, and the app shows a 2-day streak.
- Each completed day after that adds 1 more day.
Streaks are based on consecutive calendar days.
Missed days
If you forget to log a day, the app is forgiving: you can go back and update any missed log within the past 7 days. When you fill in the missing day, the app recalculates your streak from that point forward, and your progress reflects the full timeline.
The app may show your streak as faded when the most recent valid log is older than yesterday. This means the streak has not been broken yet, but it may reset if you add a new log without filling the missing day first. As long as the missed date is still within the 7-day window, add the correct log for that day to keep your streak going.
Skips and vacation days
Skips and vacation days give you room to be realistic while keeping your streak safe. They pause the count for that day instead of increasing or ending it.
When you have used your available skips, the app may show Vacation as another way to protect your streak. Use vacation days for real time away or unexpected events that reasonably kept you from doing the habit. Since vacation days protect your streak, choose them honestly so your progress still reflects what you want it to mean.
Example:
| Day | Log | Streak |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | ✓ Completed | 1 |
| Tuesday | ✓ Completed | 2 |
| Wednesday | − Skipped | 2 |
| Thursday | ✓ Completed | 3 |
The skipped day keeps the streak intact, and Thursday becomes the third completed day in the streak.
Failed days
A failed day ends the active streak.
If you had a 10-day streak and mark today as failed, the current streak resets.
FAQs
Why did my streak not increase after I skipped a day?
Skipping protects the streak, but it does not count as completing the habit. Your streak stays at the same number until the next completed day.
Why did my streak reset?
Your streak can reset if you fail a habit or if there is a missing day between valid logs. To keep a daily streak active, each calendar day needs a completed, skipped, or vacation log.
Can I fix a missed day?
Yes, if the missed date is within the past 7 days. Add the correct log for that date, and the app will recalculate the streak after the change.
Does a vacation day increase my streak?
No. A vacation day protects your current streak, but it does not add a completed day.
Does deleting or clearing a log affect my streak?
Yes. Removing a log can create a missing day. If that missing day breaks the chain of daily logs, the streak can reset when the app recalculates it.
Can my friends see my streaks?
Friends can only see activity for habits you have shared with them. Private habits are not shown to friends.
What about buckets?
Buckets follow the same streak rules as habits. Completed days increase the streak, skipped or vacation days protect it, and failed or missed days can end it.
